What is Pilates and what Pilates classes do you offer?
Pilates is a form of low impact exercise that was pioneered by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's. It has become popular as a way to improve strength and flexibility and can be a wonderful whole body workout. Pilates can be either on a mat or on equipment such as a reformer.
Pilates can be tailored to all fitness and experience levels, and can be a wonderful way to incorporate exercise into rehabilitation following an injury.
Check out our Class Descriptions page here to see what class would suit you best and get in touch if you have any questions!
What is Yoga and what Yoga classes do you offer?
Yoga is a practice that helps build strength and flexibility of your body and mind. We offer a variety of yoga practices so check out the descriptions linked below to see what might suit you. And don't worry - you don't have to be flexible! For group classes, you do need to be able to get up and down from your mat (from sitting to standing) but if this isn't an option for you, that doesn’t mean you can’t practice yoga. Get in touch with Sheree to discuss options before you book a group class. If you do have an injury or limitation, please make sure you let your teacher know before class.
Yoga classes incorporate pranayama (breathwork), asana (poses), and savasana (aka the best bit at the end of each class where you lie down for mediation / relaxation!).
It doesn't matter what you wear as long as you can move easily and bring any extra layers/props that you need to be comfortable (eg, socks, clothing, blanket, cushion, eye pillow). Avoid heavy meals for 1-2 hours prior to your practice - the last thing you want is an uneasy feeling in your belly during your practice!
